A Long History of Surgical Retraction Excellence

Janice and Dr. Jerry Brown President and CEO
“We are proud of our long history of manufacturing excellence for the surgical community worldwide.”
Dr. Dbaly, in Switzerland, conceived a table-mounted surgical retraction system. Hans Meier developed a mechanical arm to hold the retractor and lock the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints by tightening a wing nut at the elbow joint. In 1976, the Octopus Retractor, known as the Iron Intern® in the U.S., was introduced in Germany and today it is the leading articulated surgical retraction system.
AMP has pioneered laparoscopic instruments for use with the Iron Intern®. From grippers to hold trocars and scopes to introducing the use of the Nathanson Hook Liver Retractors for laparoscopic procedures as well as to developing robotically assisted MIS system, the Iron Intern® is the most adapted retraction for open and laparoscopic procedures.
The Iron Intern® Stieber Rib Grip was developed at UPMC, Pittsburgh, world renowned transplant center of the late Dr. Thomas Starzl, the father of liver transplant. It provides superior strength, exposure, and flexibility and is a premier retractor system for liver transplant, oncology, and bariatric surgery.
